By Chief Jonathan Riffe
June 11, 2011

Saturday June 11, 2011 at 1629 hours (while Ambulance 69 was committed to another medical; Ambulance 68 is being borrowed by Dunkirk VFD), Chief 6A (Montgomery), Chief 6B (Morris), Safety 6 (McKenny), Squad 6 (Montgomery Jr) and Engine 62 (Ward) were alerted for the serious auto accident with entrapment at Plum Point Road and Ridge Road (626 box). This assignment also brought the Chiefs, Rescue 1 and Ambulance 18 from the North Beach VFD along with the Medic Unit. Units arrived on location to find a pick-up truck wrapped around a tree with the passenger trapped. Crews from Squad 6 and Rescue 1 went to work immediately. To gain access to the patient, the winch had to be used to remove the truck from the tree, prior to stabilizing the truck. All the HURST tools off of Squad 6 (Jaws, Maverick Combo, "O" cutters and Rams) and several off of Rescue 1 were utilized to extricate the patient. This was done by forcing and removing both doors, the roof and rolling the dash to free the patients entangled legs. The patient was loaded into Ambulance 18 for transport to the Landing Zone which was handled by Engine 62 and eventually flown to a local trauma center. Units remained on the scene until 1727 hours.

Command: Chief 6B; Operations: Chief 6A

After clearing this incident at 1720 hours, Chief 6B, Squad 6 and Ambulance 69 responded to a priority 1 medical emergency. At 1754 hours, Chief 6A, Chief 6B, Engine 62 and Tanker 6 responded to 2515 Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick for a reported house fire. First arriving units found a controlled burn. Minutes later Chief 6A, Chief 6B, Engine 62 and Tanker 6 responded to Ball Road in Saint Leonard for a fire next to a propane tank. They returned to service shortly after.

Units: Chief 6A, Chief 6B, Squad 6, Engine 62
