By Chief Jonathan Riffe
March 17, 2011

Thursday March 17, 2011 at 2228 hours, units were alerted to 100 Security Blvd (208 box) for the building fire. This assignment brought the Huntingtown VFD 3rd due with Chief 6A (Montgomery), Chief 6B (Thrasher), Engine 62 (Robison), Squad 6 (Miller) and Tanker 6 (Gibson). First arriving units from the Prince Frederick VFD arrived on location with smoke showing from a 100' X 75' metal warehouse used to store carpet and hardwood materials. Once inside, heavy fire conditions were found throughout the building. The crew from Engine 62 arrived and began assisting Engine 21 and Engine 72 with extinguishing the fire. Squad 6 forced several doors and cut open several roll-up doors. Within minutes, conditions began to deteriorate quickly resulting in an evacuation. During the evacuation, 2 firefighters from the St Leonard VFD were reported missing which resulted in a MAYDAY being declared and the RIT team being activated. They were quickly accounted for and taken to EMS for further evaluation. They were both transported and transported with minor burns.

During this assignment, several crews remained in quarters and also responded with Engine 61 (Stewart) to a reported house fire in North Beach.

Units: Chief 6A, Chief 6B, Engine 62, Squad 6, Tanker 6
