By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
April 28, 2005

On Thursday April 28, 2005 at 1508 hours, Squad 6 (Chief 6A; Riffe) and Ambulance 68 (Angelo) were alerted along with Engine 151 (Navy Base) and Ambulance 18 (North Beach) to Bayside Road and Christiana Parran Road for the serious auto accident. Engine 151 (F/F Morrison, R) and Upper Marlboro Chief 20B (Wells) arrived to find a two-vehicle high-speed head-on collision, with one patient trapped and one ejected. Two helicopters were requested for both patients. Squad 6 arrived on the scene and split into crews. The first crew, provided patient care to the patient that was ejected while the second crew assisted Engine 151 with extricating the trapped patient. The (2) "O" cutters, the Maverick tool, and the HURST Rams were utilized off of the Squad to remove the driver's side door, the roof of the SUV, and to roll the dash to free the patients legs. The patient was extricated and loaded into Ambulance 18 for transport to PG Shock Trauma. The patient that was ejected was loaded into Ambulance 68 where he was transported also to PG Shock Trauma. This patient later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Squad 6 remained on the scene until 1622 hours.
