October 27, 2010
Wednesday October 27, 2010 at 1330 hours, Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6B (Thrasher), Squad 6 (Lt Grierson), Engine 61 (Lt Buckler) and Ambulance 68 (Martin) were alerted for the serious auto accident with entrapment on Emmanuel Church Road. This assignment also brought Prince Frederick Squad 2, Ambulance 47 and the Medic Unit. The 18 Huntingtown Volunteers arrived on location and found a single vehicle wrapped around a tree with the unconscious teenage driver trapped. Squad 6 arrived on location and due to the location of the vehicle on the tree, used the winch to remove the vehicle. The crew from Squad 6 (along with Squad 2) utilized several hydraulic tools to remove all four doors, the roof, roll the dash and cut away at several other vehicle body parts to remove the victim from the wreckage. Engine 61 stood by with a charged handline. Due to the weather, all helicopters were grounded. The patient was transported by ground to Calvert Memorial Hospital priority one. Units returned to service one hour later.
