By Chief Jonathan Riffe
January 1, 2010

New Years Day 2010 at 2223 hours, Chief 6A (Montgomery), Chief 6C (Morris), Squad 6 (Lt Buckler) and Ambulance 68 (Fitzgerald) were alerted for the serious auto accident at Dares Beach Road and Cassell Blvd (213 box). Units from Company 2 arrived to find a single-vehicle off the roadway into a group of trees, on its side, on a hill with the driver trapped. The 6-man crew from Squad 6 arrived, assisted with securing and cribbing the truck, setting up lights, throwing a 14' ladder for patient access, assisting with the 42" struts and utilized their HURST "O" Cutters and Jaws to remove the driver's side door. The patient was extricated and flown to a local trauma center.
