| Tuesday September 22, 2009 at 1002 hours, Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6B (Thrasher), Engine 62 (Williams) and Squad 6 (Morgan) were alerted to 3202 Burgess Road for the House Fire (101 box). While en route, Communications received supplemental information of a person reported trapped and a working fire. This alerted the Working Fire Dispatch with two additional Huntingtown crews: Tanker 6 (Rountree) and Ambulance 68 (Colliflower).
Engine 62 arrived, laid a supply line and reported fire and smoke showing from the one-story wood-frame residence. Engine 62's crew stretched the 200' crosslay through the front door where heavy fire was encountered in two bedrooms, the hallway, and into the living room. The fire was quickly brought under control. Squad 6's crew conducted a primary search (negative). Engine 11 backed up Engine 62's crew; Engine 21's crew stretched a line to the rear; Engine 51 stoodby as RIT; Tower 1 vented horizontally and vertically, as well as handling utilities.
The Working Fire Dispatch was quickly turned around shortly into the incident. Two occupants were treated for smoke inhalation. One cat perished in the fire. The Fire Marshal determined the fire to have originated from careless smoking. Units from the Huntingtown VFD remained on the scene until 1214 hours.
