By Chief Jonathan Riffe
May 24, 2009

Sunday May 24, 2009 at 2157 hours, Chief 6A (Montgomery), Chief 6C (Morris), Sergeant 6 (Buckler), Squad 6 (Miller), Engine 62 (Lt Grierson), Ambulance 69 (Fitzgerald), and Ambulance 68 (Capt Borden) were alerted for the auto accident at Route 4 in front of the Mexico Restauraunt. Units arrived and found a telephone pole snapped in half, a sign ripped of the foundation, 3 cars severely damaged, and a 4th car into the Surrey Inn Motel. Fortunately, no injuries occured and the driver of the vehicle that caused the destruction was already in police custody. Engine 61 and Squad 6 assessed the damage to the building, secured the gas and power, and established a Collapse Zone. While operating on this incident, Command was advised of an electrocution north of the accident scene. Ambulance 68 met with the patient who was shocked from the downed power lines but received minor injuries. Units cleared at 2219 hours.

On a side-note, the following day, Memorial Day, units were alerted for an accident at the same location. The Huntingtown VFD arrived to find a 17 year old teenager who jumped out of a moving vehicle at 65 mph. The single patient was packaged and transported to a local trauma center.
