On Wednesday February 16, 2005 shortly after clearing an overturned vehicle on Cox Road and a medical call, Company 6 was alerted at 0539 hours to assist Animal Control at 7110 Penny Lane. Chief 6 (Osbourn), Chief 6A (Riffe), and Squad 6 (F/F Nasti) arrived on location to find a dog that had fallen approximately 70 feet down a well. Animal Control had been on the scene quite some time trying unsuccessfully to rescue the dog. Apparently the dog had fallen in the well hours before and his howling woke his owners. The dog had fallen into the well that had approximately 10 feet of water at the base. Luckily, one leg was wrapped up in the sub-pump wiring and hoses which was preventing him from drowning. The crew from Squad 6 set up tri-pod lights around the well opening and eventually was able to get a piece of rope around one of the dog's legs and hoist him all the way to safety. The owners wrapped the dog up in blankets and set a heater in front of him. The dog must have extra lives because despite the 70' fall, it appeared he only suffered from a cut to his face, an injured front leg and exposure to the cold. The Squad crew cleared at 0624 hours.
