August 6, 2008

Wednesday August 6, 2008, units from the Huntingtown VFD were en route to Pushaw Station Road for a fire drill in an acquired structure. At 1017 hours, units from the North Beach VFD, Dunkirk VFD, Huntingtown VFD, and Deale VFD, were alerted to 3839 7th Street, in North Beach, for the house fire. This assignment brought Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6A (Spriggs), Chief 6C (Hayes), Lieutenant 6 (Thrasher), Utility 6 (Smith), Engine 61 (Nasti), and Tanker 6 (Grierson, R). Seconds after dispatch, Chief 6 arrived on the scene reporting fire showing from the attic of a one-story beach-bungalow and established the Command. Next arriving, Engine 11, laid out from the hydrant, and advanced an attack line through the front door. Tower 1 arrived and began opening up the ceiling for the attack crew. Engine 51, Squad 5, Engine 61, Tanker 6, and Engine 422 arrived and began assisting units with the fire. Once opened up, the fire was quickly extinguished. One firefighter was transported to an area hospital with minor burns. Units returned to service at 1214 hours.
