Tuesday July 22, 2008, just after returning from the kitchen fire, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted 2nd due for the house fire in the 4900 block of Bayside Road (102 Box). This assignment brought Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6A (Spriggs), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Chief 6C (Hayes), Engine 61 (Lt Thrasher), and Squad 6 (Capt Collins). Chief 6 and Engine 11 arrived to find nothing showing from the two-story residence with the homeowner advising of a fire in the basement. Units quickly made access to the basement and found a small fire traveling the ceiling area. Quick work was made of the fire which appeared to have started from a faulty gas line. The homeowner was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with minor injuries sustained while exiting the house. Chief 6 terminated command 45 minutes later.
