| Friday May 23, 2008 at 2028 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for the ankle injury at the end of Smoky Road bringing Squad 6 (Capt Collins) and Ambulance 68 (Suchter). As units were responding, Communications advised that the patient was on the Kings Landing Hunting Reserve (a well known location for missing hunters in previous years). In addition, the patient was in the very back of the reserve, jumped off a pier into the creek and was suffering from a fractured leg. With this information, and the known location, Chief 6 (Riffe), Utility 6 & Chief 6B (Montgomery), and Brush 6 (Morgan) were added to the call.
Units arrived on location, cutting a gate, and slowly made their way through the 3 miles and 968 acres of dirt roads and preserve despite fallen trees across the roadway and many areas of the roadway washed away due to the recent storms. Chief Engineer C. Cox arrived with his POV, and with the assistance of fellow firefighters, loaded the patient into a stokes basket and into the back of Ambulance 68. The patient was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. |
