Two Trapped & Extricated in Huntingtown

By Chief Jonathan Riffe
May 6, 2008

In the late evening hours of Tuesday May 6, 2008, the Huntingtown Volunteers were clearing an auto accident at Route 4 and Camaleer Pass. As units were returning to quarters at 2047 hours, a 2nd accident was dispatched at the same location bringing Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6C (Hayes), Squad 6 (Capt McKenny), Engine 62 (Lt Thrasher), Engine 61 (Sgt Morris), Ambulance 68 (Stewart), and Ambulance 69 (Montgomery). Units arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with two people trapped. Captain 6 established the "Sunderland" command. In normal Huntingtown fashion, crews immediately went to work. In less than 10 minutes, all 4 doors, the entire roof, and entire driver and passenger side "B" posts were removed. At the same time, both EMS crews were performing BLS care while the driver of Engine 62 stood-by with a charged handline. Engine 61 was directed to the Landing Zone but later cancelled due to Engine 62 being able to handle. One patient was transported by Trooper 2 to a local trauma center. The 2nd patient was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. Ambulance 5 (Dunkirk) assisted with patient care on the scene.

Due to several additional medical calls in the county, all Medic Units were committed. Anne Arundel Medic 42 (Deale) was dispatched but later cancelled due to Huntingtown Medic S. Inscoe arriving and taking over ALS care. Another fine job by the Huntingtown Volunteers. Units cleared at 2144 hours.
