| In the past few months, several members have been recently hired by career departments in the area. Of course this is because of the amount of time, training and effort our members put forth both in and outside of the department. Just days ago, member Ty Lester flew in from Idaho to celebrate the 35th Anniversary with his friends and family of Huntingtown VFD. At the banquet, he received EMS Rookie of the Year. In years past, Ty has received numerous other awards, scholarships, and competed in Firefighter Skill Challenges, on the local, state, and national level. The day after the banquet he flew back to Idaho where he currently lives, following his dream of becoming a wildland firefighter. Today, Ty received news from Forestry, that he has been hired.
Weird sounding as it is, thousands of people apply for this job, but only a few are picked up. On May 19th, Ty is to report to Kelly Creek, a camp just north of Orofino, Idaho. Inside the camp is a single engine. However, the majority of the terrain is inaccesible by vehicle and must be reached by foot enable to cut firelines.
Ty---we congratulate and wish you the best of luck. |
