Engine & Tanker on Upper Pindell Road

By Chief Jonathan Riffe
February 5, 2008

This afternoon, February 5, 2008, at 1245 hours, units from Anne Arundel County, Dunkirk, and North Beach were alerted to Upper Pindell Road just north of the county line for the dwelling fire. Units arrived to find heavy fire showing involving a barn converted into a house, a trailer, and everything else in the vicinity. Command immediately began requesting additional Tankers and a 2nd alarm. Knowing that at least the Engine and Tanker would be due, Huntingtown crews left quarters only to hear units 20 miles further away in distance being dispatched to the call. Engine 61 and Tanker 6 were dispatched to transfer to Anne Arundel Station 9. However, this was quickly changed, adding Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Engine 61 (Bingham), and Tanker 6 (Hope) to the Box Assignment. Engine 61 arrived and was put to work on the fireground for several hours while Tanker 6 shuttled 6,000 gallons of water. Units from Huntingtown didn't return to service until 1752 hours.

With two crews out, an additional 2 engine crews and 1 ambulance crew remained in quarters.
