By Chief Jonathan Riffe
November 28, 2007

Wednesday November 28, 2007, the Huntingtown Volunteers were listening over the scanner to a high-speed police chase in Prince Frederick that traveled 15 miles through Huntingtown and finally ending at Route 4 and Town Center Blvd. At approximately 1415 hours, Police advised that the vehicle had overturned and was on fire. Communications dispatched Dunkirk and Huntingtown units to the call bringing Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6A (Spriggs), Squad 6 (Lt Thrasher), and Ambulance 69 (Stewart). However, Chief 6B (Montgomery), Brush 6 (Cox, C), and Jeep 6 (Sgt Kerns) were en route back from a large debris fire and pulled up on the accident just seconds after being dispatched.

Crews found three victims trapped, all priority 1's. Squad 6 arrived and assisted with patient care and removal of one victim. Brush 6 and Jeep 6's crew assisted with vehicle stabilization, extrication, and patient care. Ambulance 69 transported one patient priority 1 to the Landing Zone. In the end, one of the patients died, and two remain in critical condition. Units from Huntingtown returned to quarters at 1530 hours. Chief 6B (Montgomery) handled Operations. With 3 Chiefs & 4 crews on the street, two additional crews remained in Quarters.

A Calvert Count Sheriff's Department spokesperson said the police pursuit started at the Wal-Mart in Prince Frederick after three theft suspects from a Tuesday robbery were spotted at the store. Wal-Mart employees chased the trio into the parking lot where deputies and Maryland State Police started the chase.

Units: Chief 6, Chief 6A, Chief 6B, Squad 6, Jeep 6, Brush 6, Ambulance 69
