By Chief Jonathan Riffe
November 24, 2007
Friday, November 23, 2007 at approximately 2300 hours, units from North Beach VFD and Huntingtown VFD were alerted for the vehicle into the house at the corner of Old Bayside Road and 17th Street. Initially, only Squad 6 (Rountree) was due to the call from quarters. They immediately responded with 6 Volunteers. Units from North Beach VFD arrived to find a vehicle into a house with fire showing, bringing the full box assignment. Along with Squad 6, Chief 6A (Spriggs), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Engine 61 (Lt Thrasher), and Tanker 6 (Fitzgerald) were added to the call. The fire was quickly brought under control, and Command (Chief 1) held the assignment to Company 1 and Squad 6. A third crew in quarters staffed Engine 62 (S/O Bowen) for the fill-in at Company 1 Quarters. Engine 61 was re-routed to the Landing Zone for the driver. Squad 6's crew was tasked with checking for extension with the Thermal Imager and securing the house.
While wrapping up from this call, crews were about to be dispatched to the 2nd working fire.
