By Chief Jonathan Riffe
November 5, 2007

At 0708 hours on Monday, November 5, 2007, Calvert Communications began receiving phone calls of an overturned vehicle at Route 4 and Skinners Turn Road (501 box). Minutes later, Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Squad 6 (Lt Thrasher), and Ambulance 69 (Morgan) were dispatched along with Company 5 units and the Medic Unit. While en route, Communications received supplemental information from police on scene that 2 persons were trapped. Dunkirk units arrived to find a serious "T-bone" accident with 4 persons trapped along with an overturned box truck. Hearing this information, an additional crew in quarters staffed Ambulance 68 (Dickerson) and responded.

Huntingtown units arrived shortly after, and quickly placed the "HURST" Combo/Maverick tool and both sets of "O" cutters in service along with the tools already being utilized by Squad 5. In a matter of minutes, all patients were extricated and passed to awaiting EMS crews.

3 patients (all priority one) were air-transported by Trooper 2, Trooper 7, and Eagle 1. One patient was pronounced on the scene. 3 other patients were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. EMS units were utilized as far north as Deale, and as far south as St Leonard. An ambulance from Solomons was dispatched to fill-in at Company 6 quarters.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of all involved. Due to respect of the family, no additional pictures will be posted on our website. One picture courtesy of www.dchookedonphotography.com
