By Chief Jonathan Riffe
September 29, 2007

Saturday September 29, 2007 at 0106 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for the overturned vehicle on Steven Reid Road. Units quickly answered the call with Chief 6B (Montgomery), Squad 6, Engine 62, Ambulance 68, and Ambulance 69.

After 2 more calls, at 0900 hours, Tanker 6 and Brush 6 assisted a citizen on Patience Place with a large controlled burning and returned to service at 1140 hours.

At 1855 hours, Lieutenant 6 (Thrasher), Squad 6, Engine 62, Ambulance 68, and Ambulance 69 were alerted to Route 4 and Oxford Way for the overturned vehicle on fire. Huntingtown units arrived to find a pick-up truck that had rode the guardrail but did not overturn. Due to the fuel line rupturing, the vehicle burst into flames. The driver, a diabetic, was luckily pulled from the vehicle (while it was still on fire), by bystanders. The Huntingtown Volunteers quickly made work of the fire and the patient was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.

As units were picking up from the previous incident, Chief 6 and Engine 62 were alerted to Prince Frederick for the building fire at 1911 hours. Units found a controlled burn and were quickly placed in service.

At 2222 hours, Chief 6 (Riffe), Lieutenant 6 (Thrasher), Engine 61, Engine 62, Squad 6, Tanker 6, and Ambulance 68 were alerted to Dot Lane for the electrical fire. Units arrived to find a faulty light ballast and the box was quickly held to Huntingtown units only.

While operating on this incident, a priority 1 medical was dispatched on Cherry Hill Road. Tanker 6 cleared the electrical fire, and an additional crew in quarters staffed Ambulance 69.

During the day, a total of 11 calls were answered and the Huntingtown Volunteers were able to staff the apparatus 25 times.
