| This past month, F/F EMT Ty Lester traveled to Kansas City, Missouri for the National Vo-Tech competition. This is because a few months ago, he scored 1st place in the state competition. Along for the flight to Kansas City was S/O Bernie Collins and Rick Grierson (Chief 6D?). They acted as mentors and support. The trip lasted 6 days. Ty competed with other firefighters across the country. Not just in written tests, but an entire hands-on physical challenge that was timed. At the end, Ty scored 5th place. Congratulations to Ty and for being a fine example of the Huntingtown VFD.
Unfortunately, Ty will be leaving us next month. He is following his dream of moving to Idaho (????) and jumping out of airplanes to fight huge wildfires (???????). Whatever makes you happy. Good luck and congratulations again.
Many thanks to Recruitment and Retention Specialist Wayne Hardesty and Vo-Tech Principal Mrs. McKimmey for their hard work in allowing this to happen. |
