By Chief Jonathan Riffe
May 27, 2007

On Sunday May 27, 2007 at 0518 hours, Companies 5 (Dunkirk), 6 (Huntingtown), and 1 (North Beach) were alerted to Kip Drive for the house fire. Units from Huntingtown that responded were: Chief 6A (Spriggs), Engine 61 (Nasti), and Tanker 6 (Cox, D). While units were responding, Communications received supplemental information that a person may still be inside. Chief 5B and Dunkirk units arrived to find heavy fire showing from the top floor of a split-foyer home with a confirmation that a person was in the basement. Engine 51 stretched an attack line and began extinguishing the fire while the crew from Squad 5 found a person in the basement who needed assistance exiting the house. The crew from Engine 61 arrived and stretched an attack line to the basement and found fire in the walls and ceiling directly below the fire. The Working Fire Dispatch was sounded quickly which brought Chief 6B (Montgomery), Engine 62 (Safety Officer Bowen), and Ambulance 68 (Gadway, J). The crew from Engine 62 arrived and was assigned as RIT. Ambulance 69 treated an injured firefighter on the scene. The crew from Engine 61 also handled all of the overhaul on the 1st floor and handled Utilities. Remaining Huntingtown units remained on the scene until 0733 hours.

With 4 crews operating on the above incident, an additional crew staffed Brush 6 on a local alarm. Engine 71 (St Leonard) handled the fill-in.
