By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
November 30, 2004

On Tuesday November 30, 2004 at 1446 hours, Squad 6 and Ambulance 68 were alerted to Route 4 and Skinners Turn Road in Company 5's first due for the serious auto accident. Units from Company 5 arrived to find a car that had been "T-boned" by a pick-up truck. Five patients were involved, two serious and trapped. The crews from Squad 6 (Chief 6B, Hayes) and Squad 5 began the extensive extrication by removing the roof, all four doors, and the posts also. Engine 52 advanced a safety line due to a gasoline leak. Two patients were transported to PG Shock Trauma, two to Calvert Memorial, and one patient refused treatment. Captain 5 (D. Hibbens) had the command and units from "6" cleared at 1553 hours.

Less than 30 minutes later, Company 6 was alerted for the auto accident in front of Huntingtown High School on Route 4. Chief 6 (O. Osbourn), Squad 6, Engine 62, Ambulance 68 and Ambulance 69 arrived to find a two-vehicle minor auto accident. Units cleared shortly after. Chief 6 had the command.

At approximately 1730 hours, Company 6 was once again alerted for a third auto accident, at the intersection of Plum Point and Stinnett Road. While in route, Communications advised they were receiving reports of one patient unconscious and the Medic Unit was alerted. Safety Officer 6 (C. Cox) arrived initially, establishing command, reporting two vehicles, one overturned, with several traumas and one subject trapped. The crew from Squad 6 (Chief 6B, Hayes), Engine 62 (F/F Cox, D), Ambulance 68 (EMT Dorsey), Ambulance 69 (EMT Wells, K) arrived on the scene minutes later. The crew from Squad 6 removed the driver's side door for a rapid extrication to remove the priority one unconscious driver. Engine 12 (North Beach) assisted with traffic control and the crew from Engine 151 (Navy Base) pulled a safety line due to a fuel leak. A total of two helicopters were requested and three patients (one adult and two children) were air-transported to PG Shock Trauma and Children's Hospital.

Three hours later at approximately 2030 hours, Chief 6B (Hayes), Chief 6C (Spriggs), Engine 61 (F/F Jones, J) and Tanker 6 (F/F Cox, D) were alerted to 6796 Briscoes Turn Road for the reported house fire. Upon arrival of units, it was found to be one of our own member's houses. Fortunately, it was found to be a small electrical fire in the wall that was extinguished prior to our arrival.
