By Chief Jonathan Riffe
March 25, 2007

Sunday March 25, 2007, at 0822 hours, Chief 6A (Spriggs), Chief 6B (Montgomery), Squad 6 (Nasti), and Ambulance 68 (Cooper) were alerted to Route 4 and Chaneyville Road (503 box) for the auto accident. Company 5 (Dunkirk) units arrived to find a serious t-bone collision with two people trapped. The crew from Squad 6 arrived on location pulling the HURST 32" spreaders and both sets of "O" cutters. The 5-man crew removed the driver's side door, driver's side "A", "B", and "C" post, roof, and passenger side "A" and "C" post. Engine 51's crew worked on the passenger side "popping" the rear passenger side door and removing the passenger side "B" post. Due to quick and efficient work by both teams, the patients were extricated in minutes. Due to fog, helicopters weren't flying. Ambulance 5 transported the priority one patient to Calvert Memorial while Ambulance 68 transported to PG Shock Trauma.

As the crew from Squad 6 was returning to quarters, the 2nd ambulance from Huntingtown (A-69) was requested back to the scene for another patient. With both ambulances on the street, Engine 61 responded to Symphony Lane for the full arrest.
