| Friday evening, FDNY Battalion Chief John Salka (author of "First In, Last Out") arrived in Huntingtown after traveling from New York to Maryland on train. Saturday from 0800-1700 hours, Chief Salka spoke and lectured on the different management and leadership techniques that everybody (not just firefighters) can use to improve their organization. Additionally, we looked at two different NIOSH reports that involved 2 firefighters that were killed at different scenes and what could have been done differently to prevent this. Finally, Chief Salka had a slideshow of the events that occured on 9/11.
Afterwards, Chief Salka rode with the fellas aboard Engine 62 to the Mexico restauraunt for dinner.
From the members of Huntingtown VFD, we want to personally thank Chief Salka for sharing his knowledge, experience, and wisdom with us. For more information, please visit: www.firecommandtraining.com |
