On Saturday March 25, 2007 at 0219 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers and Medic Unit were alerted to Ponds Wood Road (vicinity of Route 4) for the overturned Calvert County Sheriff's Department (CCSD) vehicle. While responding, Communications received supplemental information of a corrected location of Ponds Wood and Tulip Court and that the deputy was trapped. Minutes later, 3 HVFD Chief's, Squad 6 (Nasti), Engine 62 (S/O Bowen), Ambulance 68 (Morgan), and Ambulance 69 (Sgt Kerns) arrived to find a CCSD cruiser that had rolled several times with the deputy trapped in the driver's seat. The crew from Squad 6 immediately went to work. After stabilizing and securing the vehicle, extrication began with the crew from Squad 6 and Engine 62. The driver's side door and entire roof was removed in a matter of minutes. The line-man from Engine 62 stood fast with a charged handline. Due to inclement weather, helicopters weren't flying. The deputy was transported by Ambulance 69 to PG Shock Trauma along with the Medic. Command was terminated 40 minutes later.
