By Chief Jonathan Riffe
February 15, 2007

On February 15, 2007 at 1804 hours, Companies 5 (Dunkirk), Company 6 (Huntingtown), Engine 12 (North Beach), and Company 2 (Prince Frederick) were alerted to 1414 Georgianna Lane (501 box) for the house fire. Units alerted from Company 6 were Chief 6 (Riffe), Chief 6C (Hayes), Safety Officer 6 (Bowen), Engine 62 (Nasti) and Tanker 6 (Grierson, R). Chief 6 and Safety Officer 6 arrived first on location to find a one-story wood-frame house with heavy smoke showing. Upon investigating, fire was found in a basement room with extension onto the first floor. Chief 6 established the "Sunderland Command". The crew from Engine 51 stretched an attack line to the basement with a back-up line from Engine 62. The crew from Engine 12 stretched an attack line to the 1st floor and found fire in the ceiling and walls. All Engine crews made quick work of the fire. Crews from Squad 5 and Tower 2 conducted searches (negative), opened up around the fire, and set up fans and lights.

A Working Fire Dispatch was alerted but quickly cancelled due to quick work of the attack crews. Engine 422 (Deale) and Engine 151 (Navy Base) were also special called to the scene. Ambulance 68 handled the transfer to Company 5 quarters. With several Huntingtown members on the scene, over 20 members remained in quarters for a drill on harnesses.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. One turtle was rescued from the fire, however, one rabbit perished. Huntingtown units operated on the scene until 1951 hours.

Command: Chief 6----later transferred to Chief 5C (King, A)
Operations: Chief 1 (Freesland)
Basement: Chief 6C
Accountability: Safety Officer 6

Units: Chief 6, Chief 6C, Safety Officer 6, Engine 62, Tanker 6
