By Chief Jonathan Riffe
February 8, 2007

On Thursday February 8, 2007, the Huntingtown Volunteers day began early and continued throughout the day responding to several calls. The first call was dispatched at 0647 hours. Engine 62 (Cox, D) was alerted to Company 5's (Dunkirk) first due for the Fire Alarm sounding. Company 5 units arrived to find a short circuit and held it to themselves only.

Shortly after backing into quarters, at 0744 hours, Chief 6A (Spriggs), Chief 6C (Hayes), Squad 6 (Smith), and Ambulance 68 (Stewart) were alerted to Route 4 and Lower Marlboro Road for the auto accident. Units arrived to find only one patient requiring transport.

As units were operating on the accident, Chief 6C, and Engine 62 (Osbourn) were alerted to 1435 Solomon's Island Road (Bowen's Florist) in Company 2's first due (Prince Frederick) for the working building fire. Chief 6C was first to arrive on location, establishing command. Upon further investigation, a small fire was found contained to the container. Chief 6C held the assignment to Company 2 units only.

The exact minute units were going in service at Bowen's Florist, Chief 6A, Chief 6C, and Engine 62 (Osbourn) were alerted for the apartment fire at 420 West Dares Beach Road in Company 2's first due. Units arrived to find food on the stove and quickly held the assignment to Company 2 and 6.

Hours later, Engine 62 (Cox, D) and Ambulance 68 were alerted to Huntingtown High School for the neck injury. Units arrived to find the same and air-transported the patient to Children's Hospital.

At 1855 hours, Engine 61 and Squad 6 were alerted to 6420 Casey Way for the Fire Alarm. Units found a system malfunction and cleared minutes later.

Less than an hour later, Chief 6C (Hayes), Brush 6 (Gadway, C) and Ambulance 68 were alerted to assist Company 5 units with the search of a missing 7 year old child. In addition, units from the entire county, assisted in the search. Several hours later, 3 members from Dunkirk and 2 Huntingtown members (Foresta and Fitzgerald) were in the woods and able to locate the child safely. An outstanding job to all of the Calvert County Volunteers. Additional details can be found at: http://www.dunkirk5.com/fullstory.php?41050

With units operating on the search, Engine 62 (Rountree, RJ) was transferred to Company 5 quarters, leaving three additional crews at Company 6.
