Heavy Fire at Wilson Rd House

By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
October 19, 2006

On Thursday October 19, 2006 at 0916 hours, Chief 6A (Riffe), Engine 61 (Cooper), Tanker 6 (Capt McKenny) and Squad 6 (Davis) were alerted to the 1400 block of Wilson Road for the house fire (2nd due) along with other mutual aid units. Prior to this, Prince Frederick Engine 22 was alerted in the area for the Investigation. While en route, Communications received supplemental information advising of a house fire. The box was quickly upgraded as units from Company 2 arrived to find heavy fire on the 2nd floor. Upon Company 6's arrival, two attack lines were already in operation by Engine 22 and Engine 151. The crew from Engine 61 advanced a 2" attack line and began to assist units already at work in the residence. In addition to fire on the 2nd floor, a room was involved in the basement and the fire made quick access to the attic. Fortunately, crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Chief 2A (D'Agostino) held the Command with Chief 2C (Scott) with Interior. Huntingtown units returned to service shortly before 1200 hours. A total of 13 Huntingtown Volunteers operated on this incident while E-422 and Chief 42A (Deale) filled-in at Company 6.

On a side-note: Many thanks to Squad 7, Engine 72 (St Leonard), and Chips Towing for their assistance. While en route to the scene, Squad 6 was placed out of service. In an effort to avoid being struck by a large box-truck, the Squad was run off the road into a field causing it to be buried in the mud. Fortunately, Chips Towing and Company 7 units (with assistance from the air bags on S-6) were able to free the Squad so it could return to service.
