By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
October 16, 2006

On Monday October 16, 2006 at 1857 hours, Engine 62 (Chief 6B, Hayes) and Tanker 6 (Chief 6A, Riffe) were alerted 3rd due to 600 Keith Lane in Company 5's area for the Working Building Fire. Engine 21 already in the area, arrived on location with heavy smoke showing from a two-story commercial building. Engine 61 arrived, picked up Engine 11's line and the 6-man crew pulled another line to the 2nd floor to assist with extinguishing. Approximately 4 units were well-involved with fire with extension into the cockloft and smoke showing from exposures. Because of this, a 2nd alarm was requested, bringing Engine 62 (Lt Montgomery) 1st due. E-62's 6-man crew made their way to the 2nd floor to assist in extinguishing hot spots and checking for extension. Tanker 6 dropped 6,000 gallons of water and supplied E-61. Crews made excellent work in extinguishing the fire along with saving the remainder of the building. No injuries were reported. Remaining Huntingtown crews were in service shortly before 2200 hours. Chief 1 (Freesland) was the Incident Commander.

The Huntingtown Ladies Auxiliary also responded to the scene to provide refreshments. A total of 17 Huntingtown members responded to the scene. 12 additional staffed the station for the Squad and Ambulances. Many thanks to Engine 71 for filling-in at our station.
