By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
October 10, 2006

On Tuesday October 10, 2006 at 1040 hours, just after returning to quarters from a fire prevention detail, Box 621 was alerted for the house fire at 1516 Cox Road. Units alerted were Company 6, Engine & Tower 2 (Prince Frederick), Engine 151 (Dunkirk), Engine & Squad 5 (Dunkirk), and Tanker 7 (St Leonard). Chief 4 (Rescue Squad) arrived first and reported smoke showing. Chief 6A (Riffe), Engine 61 (Lt Montgomery), Engine 62 (Lt Thrasher), Squad 6 (Kerns), Tanker 6 (Grierson, R), and Ambulance 68 (Wells) arrived minutes later with smoke now showing from all 4 sides. Chief 6A established command while the crew from Engine 61 quickly advanced their line to the basement. A small malicious fire was found near the fireplace and was quickly extinguished. Remaining Huntingtown crews threw ground ladders, set up PPV at the front door, and checked the floors above and the attic for extension. The box was quickly scaled down to Company 6 units. Approximately 45 minutes later, Command was terminated and units returned to service.

Units: Chief 6A, Engine 61, Engine 62, Squad 6, Tanker 6, Ambulance 68
