By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
August 27, 2006

Sunday August 28, 2006, was an unusually busy day with a wide range of auto accidents.

At 1013 hours, Huntingtown VFD and Ambulance 4 (Prince Frederick RS) were alerted for the auto accident at Route 4 and Plum Point Road. Chief 6A (Riffe), Chief 6B (Hayes), Captain 6 (McKenny), Squad 6 (Sgt Nasti), Engine 62 (Cox, C), and Ambulance 68 (Muholland) arrived to find a T-bone collision with three patients involved. All were ground-transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.

At 1107 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for the auto accident at Route 4 and Huntingtown High School. Captain 6, Squad 6 (Rountree Jr) and Ambulance 68 (Muholland) arrived to find a single vehicle accident involving a deer. Apparently the deer jumped into the driver's side window while still in motion. Units cleared a short time later.

At 1248 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers, Engine 151 (Navy Base), and Ambulance 4 were alerted to 1248 Plum Point Road for the auto accident. Chief 4 arrived and advised of a serious auto accident with one patient trapped; a total of 9 patients. This led to Squad 2 (Prince Frederick) and the Medic Unit being added to the call. Chief 6B, Chief 6C (Spriggs), Captain 6 (McKenny), Squad 6 (Lt Thrasher), Engine 62 (Lt Montgomery), Ambulance 68 (Muholland), and Ambulance 69 (Stewart) arrived shortly thereafter. The crew from Squad 6 immediately went to work by removing the roof, both driver's side doors, and rolling the dash. The crew from Squad 2 assisted greatly in this operation. Engine 151 (Capt D'Intino) stood-by with a charged handline for protection. One patient was flown to PG Shock Trauma, and eight patients were ground transported to Calvert Memorial.

After running two more local alarms, Company 6 and Engine 151 were alerted to Dalrymple Road and Ray Road for the auto accident. Squad 6 (Lt Montgomery) and Ambulance 68 (Cooper) found the same and cleared a short time later.

At 1717 hours, Squad 6 (Rountree, Jr) and Ambulance 68 (Muholland) were alerted to Route 4 and Skinners Turn Road in Company 5's first due. Initial reports advised of approximately 6 vehicles involved. Company 5 units arrived and were able to handle the call on their own.
