On Wednesday August 9, 2006 at 0958 hours, Chief 6 (Osbourn), Engine 62 (Chief 6C, Spriggs) and Tanker 6 (D'Amico) were alerted 4th due for the building fire at 5500 Ketch Road. Chief 6B (Hayes) arrived as the first arriving Officer behind Engine 21 and reported a working fire in the building, and established Command. Engine 62 arrived as the 3rd due Engine and made their way inside the extremely large (and tall) metal fabrication shop to assist the crew from Engine 21. Upon entry, heavy smoke was found throughout the building banked down to the floor level. An active burning fire was found and upon opening the enclosed area, fire reached the ceiling level (over 30 feet tall). Due to the large amount of combustibles, hazardous materials, and size of the building, the Working Fire Dispatch (WFD) was alerted. The 3rd crew at the station (Engine 61; Chief 6A, Riffe) responded first due on the WFD and arrived to assist crews already at work in the building. The fire was quickly brought under control, however ventilation became quite and obstacle. After approximately 45 minutes, Command downgraded the box to Company 2, Company 6, and Company 83 (Benedict).
While three Huntingtown crews operated on the above incident, a 4th crew at the station was on the road responding to Medical Locals. Good job by all............(Pictures courtesy of Company 2).
