| Recently, through a combined effort of the Calvert County Volunteer Fire & EMS, the Calvert Recruitment and Retention Committee, and Comcast TV, the Huntingtown VFD was offered a spot in a local television commercial; an offer they couldn't refuse. In the near future, Comcast TV will be airing a commercial focusing on the volunteer firefighters and EMT's of Calvert County. Fortunately, the Huntingtown VFD recently acquired a house on Kings Landing Road for us to train in. This morning, Comcast TV met with us at the drill house. A room was lit off twice and the camera crew was on hand watching the 2 man back-step crew (Lester and Colleli) advance an attack line into the fire room and extinguish the flames. Additionally, one other volunteer (R. Grierson) was interviewed by Comcast Television at another location. Many thanks to Comcast, and the County for asking the Huntingtown Volunteers to participate in the commercial.
For the past several years, the Chief's, Recruitment and Retention Committee, and County Volunteer's have been diligently working to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters and EMT's. As of now, their is a Cadet Program where new teenagers receive training through the high school system, parents can receive vouchers that will pay for their child's daycare while they volunteer at the station, you can receive LOSAP credit, and anybody that meets a set criteria, will receive assistance from the County in paying for their college tuition and books. Why would you pass up an offer like this and where else can you volunteer and receive these benefits?

On a side note, just hours prior to this drill, Engine 61 (Sgt Nasti) was alerted for the house fire on 28th Street in Company 1's (North Beach) first due. Units found an abandoned house on fire. Because of this, mutual aid units were quickly placed in service. |
