By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
July 14, 2006

On Friday July 14, 2006 at approximately 1800 hours, Company 6 (Huntingtown), Company 5 (Dunkirk), Company 2 (Prince Frederick), and Tanker 7 were alerted to Estate Drive for the oven fire. Chief 6 (Osbourn), Chief 6A (Riffe), Engine 61 (Rountree Jr), Engine 62 (Capt Patin), Squad 6 (Rountree, Sr), Tanker 6 (Farrell, G), and Ambulance 68 arrived to find moderate smoke conditions in the inside of the residence. A fire was still actively burning but was contained to the oven. The attack line from Engine 61 was advanced and the fire was quickly brought under control. The box was held to Engine 61 and Squad 6 (for ventilation) before they went available 30 minutes later.

Later that night at 2300 hours, Company 6, Ambulance 4 (Prince Frederick RS), and Huntingtown Medic 104 (Buffalini) were alerted for the motorcycle accident on Route 4 in the area of Huntingtown High. Chief 6 (Osbourn), Chief 6A (Riffe), Squad 6 (Sgt Nasti), Engine 62 (Lt Montgomery), and Ambulance 68 (Gadway, J) arrived and found a motorcycle versus a car closer to Route 4 and Ponds Wood Rd. The motorcycle and car collided ejecting the motorcyclist. The motorcycle traveled on it's side approximately 1/4 further north of the accident site. The patient was suffering from several fractures to one leg with severe road rash and traumatic injuries over the entire body. Crews quickly worked to stabilize the patient and load for transport. Due to inclement weather, helicopters were grounded, causing Ambulance 68 to transport priority one to PG Shock Trauma with Medic 104 onboard. Command (Chief 6) was terminated 30 minutes later. Many thanks to Dunkirk Ambulance 58 for filling-in at our quarters.
