Huntingtown Volunteers Commended

By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
July 8, 2006

Usually every month or so, if members from Huntingtown VFD do an exceptional job on an emergency incident, they are usually awarded the traditional "Atta Boy" Award that the Huntingtown VFD has presented for several years. Last night, was a little different. On May 6, 2006, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for a serious auto accident. Upon arrival, two patients were found trapped and one unconscious. Members quickly went to work, extricating both patients and air-transporting them to PG Shock Trauma. What nobody knew was that, two days after this incident, the father of one of the patients, contacted Huntingtown VFD. The doctors at PG Shock Trauma treated one of the patients with a serious broken neck and specifically said that if the members of the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department had not treated the patient as carefully as they had of and provided C-spine immobilization as they did, the patient would have surely died on the scene. Because of the constant training we provide our members, they were able to save one's life. 14 members from Huntingtown VFD operated on this incident, and all of them received the traditional award last night. Job well done.
