By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
May 19, 2006

On Friday May 20, 2006, shortly after lunch, a citizen called the station advising they had just returned home, found smoke in their residence, and felt we should check it out. A quick call to Communications led to Company 6 (Huntingtown), Company 2 (Prince Frederick), Company 5 (Dunkirk), and Tanker 7 (St Leonard) being dispatched to 5065 Dangus Lane at 1236 hours. Chief 6A (Riffe), Engine 61 (Randleman), Squad 6 (Lt Thrasher), and Tanker 6 (Morgan) arrived to find a single-story residence with nothing showing from the street. Chief 6A established the "Kings Landing Command" while the crew from Engine 61 stretched a line to the residence finding smoke on the first floor. Lieutenant 6 was assigned to Interior Division. The crew from Squad 6 searched the entire remainder of the residence searching for the source of smoke. After investigating the basement, 1st floor, and attic, it was determined that burning wires caused the problem. The Box was held to Company 6 units only before everybody returned at 1305 hours.

Less than 2 hours later, at 1458 hours, Chief 6C (Spriggs), Engine 62 (Bivens), and Tanker 6 (Morgan) were alerted 3rd due to 3889 Gordon Stinnett Dr for the town-house fire. Company 1 (North Beach) units and Chief 6C arrived to find mulch on fire in the rear of the building that had extended into the crawl-space. A quick attack by Company 1 units brought the fire under control within minutes. Mutual aid units were placed in service while Engine 62 transferred to the quarters of Company 1. Chief 1B (Gibson)-Command; Chief 6C-Operations.
