By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
March 28, 2006

On Tuesday March 28, 2006 at 1110 hours, a concerned citizen contacted Company 6 advising her house was filling up with gas (unknown type). While speaking with her, it was quickly realized that the citizen lived in Company 5's first due. After a quick call to Communications, Chief 6 (Osbourn), Chief 6A (Riffe), Engine 61 (Cooper) and Squad 6 (Sgt Nasti) quickly mounted up as Residential Haz-Mat Box 501 was being dispatched. Company 5 units arrived to find a leaking heating fuel line in the inside of the residence. The crew from Engine 61 and Squad 6 arrived and assisted with shutting off the fuel and cleaning up the hazard.

At 1133 hours, while units were picking up, Company 2 (Prince Frederick) was alerted for a woods fire on Williams Road. While monitoring the 2nd fireground channel, units operating on the above incident overheard Company 2 units arrive with several small brush fires and a fully involved barn. Minutes later, the assignment was upgraded bringing Chief 6, Chief 6A, Engine 61, Brush 6 (Hardesty), and Jeep 6 (Rountree) to the call. Company 6 units arrived, pulled two attack lines along with two booster lines and began assisting units with extinguishing the barn fire and the perimeter of the brush fires. Huntingtown crews remained on the scene of this incident until 1423 hours before being turned loose.

With 2 Chiefs, Engine 61, Squad 6, Brush 6, and Jeep 6 committed on the above calls, Engine 62 (with a crew of 6) was alerted at 1241 hours to 4330 Solomon's Island Road for the Automatic Fire Alarm.
