By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
February 12, 2006

On February 11, 2006 at 2317 hours in heavy snow conditions, Company 2 (Prince Frederick), Comany 6 (Huntingtown), Company 7 (St Leonard), Company 83 (Benedict), Tower 1 (North Beach), and Ambulance 4 (Rescue Squad) were alerted to 110 West Dares Beach Rd (Robert's Deli) for the building fire. Company 2 units were already operating on the scene after the call was originally dispatched for a smoke investigation. Upon their arrival, heavy smoke was encountered in the building along with two rooms off in the kitchen area. Chief 2 (Ficke) established Command and requested the full box assignment. Chief 6A (Riffe), Engine 62 (Chief 6B, Hayes) with 4 personnel and Squad 6 (Bivens) with 5 personnel responded initially on the assignment. Upon our arrival, Engine 62 picked up Engine 21's supply line and was directed to Divison 2 to check for extension. The 400' attack line was advanced with several doors being forced into two businesses and one residential apartment. Squad 6 completed the search and rescue, and numerous other special service tasks.

Shortly after arrival, Command requested a 2nd alarm. Engine 61 (Lt Montgomery) with 5 volunteers responded 1st due on the 2nd alarm. Upon their arrival, they were assigned to Side "C" and assisted Engine 62 and Squad 6 already on the scene. Tower 1 was also assigned to Division 2 to assist Company 6 units. A total of 15 Huntingtown Volunteers operated on the scene until 0107 hours before being placed in service. Chief 6B handled Division 2.

Dunkirk Engine 51 handled the fill-in at our station, while two of our own crews additionally staffed the Tanker and Ambulance.
