By Assistant Chief Jonathan Riffe
December 21, 2005

On Wednesday December 21, 2005 at 1356 hours, Chief 6 (Osbourn), Engine 62 (Chief 6C, Spriggs) and Tanker 6 (Amick) were alerted to Pushaw Station Road for the house fire along with Company 1 (North Beach), Engine 151 (Navy Base), Company 5 (Dunkirk), Tower 2 (Prince Frederick), and Tanker 9 (Lothian). Chief 1 and his units arrived to find a two-story tenant house with heavy fire presenting itsself through the roof and second floor. Crews began an aggressive interior attack on the 1st floor before realizing that the stairs leading to the upper floor had burnt out. Ground ladders were thrown so crews could attempt to extinguish the heavy fire on the 2nd floor and attic but the rear of the house began collapsing in. Command ordered all personnel out of the house and units began defensive operations. The remainder of the fire was knocked down and Company 6 units were returned at 1442 house. Chief 6 handled Safety. Tanker 83 (Benedict) filled our station. ***Pictures courtesy of Company 1.

While two of our crews were operating on the above run, Squad 6 and Ambulance 68 responded on one accident on Chaneyville Road. Shortly after backing into quarters, Tanker 6 responded on the brush fire at Calvert Elementary. While Tanker 6 was on this run, Squad 6 was back out the door again for the Wash Down at Huntingtown High/Route 4.
