Yesterday evening at 1703 hours, your Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted to the 2200 block of Deer Run Ct. for the reported brush fire threatening a residence. Brush 6 (A. Mangialardo) arrived on scene to find large (50 x 70) stand of bamboo fully involved and progressing. Chief 6C (M. Eversole) arrived and established command. E61 (Chief 6A, T. Clark ) and Tanker 6 (J. Mattera ) set up water supply and assisted with extinguishment. Jeep 6 (A. Merz) also assisted with extinguishment. A69 (A. Threlfall) stood by ready to treat any medical emergencies. Due to the windy conditions, three additional wind driven spot fires occurred on adjoining farm, approximately 300 yards away. Additional Brush Units and Engines from North Beach, Prince Frederick and Tankers from Dunkirk and St. Leonard were also dispatched to assist in extinguishment. Units operated just under two hours. Yesterday was a “Red Flag Day” which signifies a high wildfire risk due to a combination of weather conditions.
