By Fire Captain & Public Information Officer (PIO) Jonathan Riffe
December 4, 2014

At the height of the rush hour traffic on Thursday December 4, 2014 at 1736 hours, units from the Huntingtown VFD were alerted for the Auto Accident in front of the 2 & 4 Liquor Store, located at 6200 Solomons Island Road. The Assistant Chief (Morris), Deputy Fire Chief (Clark), Rescue Squad 6 (Lt Ward), Rescue Engine 62 (Rountree), Paramedic Ambulance 68 (Threlfall) & Ambulance 69 (Marseglia) responded on the call. While enroute, Communications received supplemental information that one person was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle. The Huntingtown Volunteers arrived on location and found a 2 vehicle T-Bone accident with one person unconscious with only agonal breaths. A helicopter was requested as members began ALS & BLS treatment on the patient. While loading the patient, he stopped breathing and CPR was immediately begn. As a result of CPR being performed, the helicopter was cancelled and the patient was ground-transported by Paramedic Ambulance 68 to Calvert Memorial Hospital. A second patient was also transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital by Ambulance 69. At 1811 hours, the Deputy Fire Chief terminated Command and units returned to service with the exception of the Rescue Squad which remained on scene for a couple of hours assisting with Accident Reconstruction. The south-bound lanes of Route 4 were shut down for 3 hours during Reconstruction.

Despite the best efforts of the Huntingtown VFD members & staff at Calvert Memorial Hospital, the 28 year old male succumbed to his injuries. Our deepest condolences, thoughts & prayers are with the family & friends of the patient, who tragically passed away at such a young age.
