By Fire Captain & Public Information Officer (PIO) Jonathan Riffe
December 4, 2014

Just 8 minutes after midnight on December 4, 2014, firefighters from the North Beach VFD, Dunkirk VFD, Anne Arundel Deale FD, Huntingtown VFD & Anne Arundel Harwood-Lothian FD were alerted for the Camper Fire in front of 9165 Sam Owings Place. The Huntingtown VFD Fire Chief (Spriggs), Assistant Chief (Morris), Fire Captain (Riffe), Rescue Lieutenant (Ward), Engine 62 (Gaylor) & Tanker 6 (Farrell) responded on the call. With units responding, Communications advised that the neighbor heard a loud explosion followed by visible fire showing and that 1-2 people were possibly trapped inside. First arriving Huntingtown VFD Rescue Lieutenant 6 established the "Sam Owings Command" at the correct address of 9150 Sam Owings Place and reported a fully-involved 10' X 10' camper with a male suffering from 2nd degree burns. The fire was quickly brought under control and within minutes Command held units from the North Beach VFD & 1st arriving Tanker. The burned patient was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital.
