By Fire Captain & Public Information Officer (PIO) Jonathan Riffe
November 26, 2014

In the early afternoon hours of Thanksgiving Eve, rush-hour traffic struck early as people began to leave work for the holidays and because the all-day rain showers had changed over into the first snowflakes of the year for the region. At 1434 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for the Auto Accident at Route 4 & Cox Road. Fire Chief 6 (Spriggs), Assistant Chief 6A (Morris), Rescue Squad 6 (Capt Riffe), Rescue Engine 62 (Cox) & Ambulance 68 (Adams) responded to the scene of a 3 vehicle accident. A total of 5 patients & 2 dogs were involved with one driver pinned. As the Rescue Squad crew began to set-up for a "door pop," the patient was able to self extricate from the vehicle. Three EMS units transported the patients to Calvert Memorial Hospital.

As the crews operated on the Auto Accident, a separate crew on Ambulance 69 (Morgal, H) responded to a Medical Local in the first-due response area. Just 4 minutes after the last piece of apparatus cleared the accident, the same above units & crews were alerted for another Auto Accident at Route 4 & Lower Marlboro Road. The Huntingtown Volunteers arrived on location of another 3 vehicle accident and cleared shortly after.

Enroute back to the station, the Fire Chief & Engine 62 responded on the Box Assignment in Anne Arundel County for a House Fire at 620 California Avenue. First arriving North Beach VFD found an auto next to a house and held it with their Wagon. Shortly after backing into quarters, Engine 62 & Tanker 6 responded to Industrial Drive (501 Box) for the Trash Truck on fire next to the building. The fire was found to be out on arrival and units returned to service.

Units: Fire Chief 6, Asst Chief 6A, Rescue Squad 6, Rescue Engine 62, Tanker 6, Ambulance 68, Ambulance 69
