Saturday August 16, 2014, hundreds of people were playing and lying on the beach in Rosehaven at Herrington On The Bay, enjoying the sunny afternoon. The rest & relaxation was abruptly cut short when smoke began pouring out of the hotel roof, just steps from the beach. At 1225 hours, firefighters from Calvert, Anne Arundel, Annapolis and PG County were alerted for the Building Fire at 7161 Lake Shore Drive (Anne Arundel 42-37 Box). Huntingtown VFD Fire Chief 6 (Spriggs), Fire Captain (Riffe) & Rescue Squad (Cook) were alerted to the call. First arriving Chief 6 reported smoke showing from the 1 story hotel and established the "Herrington Command." Attack lines were deployed and crews found fire beginning to run the length of the attic from one of the buildings. Due to crews aggressively opening up the ceiling inside of the hotel and roof above, they were able to stop the fire and quickly extinguish it. The crew from Rescue Squad 6 assisted with opening up the ceiling and setting up a PPV fan to ventilate the affected rooms. The Huntingtown VFD operated on the scene until 1420 hours.
