| On Sunday November 10, 2013, firefighters across the state of Maryland were notified of a Special Weather Statement, "Elevated Threat For Wildfires Today." Due to a cold front moving through the area, strong westerly winds gusting at 35 mph developed while the relative humidity dropped to the lower & middle 30's. These conditions combined with dry fuel moisture created an enhanced threat for the spread of wildfires.
At 1115 hours, a local alarm was dispatched for a field fire at 6285 Stephen Reid Road in Huntingtown alerting brush units from the Huntingtown VFD, Dunkirk VFD, North Beach VFD & Prince Frederick VFD. First arriving units found a woods fire quickly spreading with the wind. Additional units from across the County were brought to the scene in addition to Forestry, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) & a contracted dozer.
