13 minutes after midnight on Monday October 7, 2013, the North Beach VFD, Dunkirk VFD Squad 5 & Huntingtown VFD Squad 6 were alerted for the Building Collapse at 3604 11th Street in Chesapeake Beach. This assignment brought the Huntingtown VFD Fire Chief (Montgomery), Rescue Lieutenant (Ward), Rescue Squad (Capt Clark) & Car 6 (Bevard) with 13 Huntingtown members. First arriving units reported a large tree had fallen through a house causing major structural damage. It was also quickly determined that a lady was trapped in her bed with severe traumatic injuries due to the tree falling on top of her.
The crew from Rescue Squad 6 assisted with stabilizing the tree with an assortment of box cribbing, mounted struts to stabilize the roof trusses and dismantled the bed to give enough space to free the patient. Once accomplished, the patient was as flown to a local trauma center. Units from the Huntingtown VFD remained on the scene until 0150 hours.
