| Sunday August 25, 2013 at 1721 hours, the Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted for the cardiac arrest in the 3300 block of Plum Point Road, bringing the Fire Chief, Safety Officer, Engine 61 & Ambulance 69. In addition, Paramedic Ambulance 19 & Medic 102 responded on the call. While enroute, Communications relayed supplemental information that the call originated as a patient having chest pains and then went unconscious during the call. Safety Officer 6 arrived first on location and advised bystanders were performing CPR via instructions from the 911 Dispatcher.
As units arrived, high performance CPR began. Communications was requested to start the 15 minute time clock. One shock was delivered by the AED and during CPR, a rhythm change was noted which indicated, transportation was necessary. While enroute to Calvert Memorial Hospital, the patient quickly regained a pulse and ALS noted this patient now met the STEMI protocol. The destination was changed to the local Cardiac Catherization Lab (Southern MD Hospital). Upon arrival at SMHC, the patient was taken directly to the cath. lab for intervention and remains in Intensive Care. Excellent job to all providers on this call!
