By Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Riffe
June 17, 2013

Monday June 17, 2013 at 1629 hours (30 minutes after returning from the Owings garage fire), Squad 2, Squad 6 & EMS units were alerted for the serious auto accident in front of 2010 South Solomon's Island Road (208 box). Rescue Engine 62 (Colleli), already in Prince Frederick's 1st due, was added to the run with Rescue Squad 6 (Capt Clark). Units arrived on location and found a serious two vehicle accident involving a unit from the Calvert Advanced Life Support (CALS).

CALS Medic 103 was dispatched and responding to a separate medical emergency. While responding, the unit was involved in a fatal collision. Firefighters from the Huntingtown VFD assisted crews already on the scene with both patients. The member aboard CALS Medic 103 was flown to a local trauma center. Unfortunately the driver of the second vehicle perished in the collision. The Huntingtown VFD operated on the scene for 30 minutes before returning to service.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.
