| It brings great joy to announce that Tommy Brady, a Charter Member of the Huntingtown VFD and 1st ever Fire Chief was elected into the Calvert County Fire-Rescue Hall of Fame.
Tommy started his volunteer career with the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department in 1964. It was there where he served as the Sergeant, Safety officer, Engineer, and a member of the Board of Directors.
In 1972, Tommy joined the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad as a Charter Member. He was quickly elected HVFD's first Chief. This was a critical time for the citizens of Huntingtown trying to establish their own fire department. While performing his duties as the Fire Chief, Tommy also served on the original building committee and equipment committee. He, as well as the many other charter members and citizens of Huntingtown, spent tireless hours constructing the original building.
In Tommy's 14 years at Huntingtown VFD, he also served as Deputy Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Safety Officer, and as a member of the Board of Directors. One of his last contributions to the fire department in 1986 was to Chair the committee for the addition to the fire house and the construction of the post office which stands next door.
After serving Southern Maryland for 35 years as a Forest Ranger for the Department of Natural Resources, Tommy returned to Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department where he served another 6 years.
The citizens of Huntingtown, Prince Frederick, and Calvert County are better thanks to the leadership, tireless effort, and service given by Tommy. He will officially receive his award and be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the Calvert County Fire & Rescue Association's Annual Awards Dinner on Friday April 12 from 6-9 pm at the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department.
**This would not have been possible without the diligent work of Vice President, Dale Bowen. |
