| The Huntingtown VFD has set another precadent.....for several years in a row now. The Southern Maryland Firefighter Skills USA Vo-tech competition occured Saturday February 2nd at the Huntingtown VFD. Previously selected amongst all the students in the Calvert, Charles & St Mary's County Vo-Tech Classes, was member Matt Montgomery. Matt Montgomery finished in 2nd place, just seconds behind 1st place. Because he finished between 1st - 3rd place, he will be attending the State Competition in Annapolis, MD later this spring!! Congratulations to Matt!!!
This event occurs every year; all the local high schools in the county send the top students from the high-school cadet program to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The top 3 students from the Tri-County competition are invited to the State competition in Annapolis, MD in March. If they finish in 1st place at the State Competition, they move on to the National Competition later in the summer in Kansas City, Missouri. The competition was a tremendous success.
In 2012, Haley Morgal was selected to compete in the Southern MD Skills Competition. In 2009, member, Ben Jeffreys finished in 1st place and his twin brother, Mike Jeffreys finished in 3rd place. In 2008, member Josh Buckler was selected to the competition. In 2007, members, Ty Lester & Rick Grierson competed in the Tri-County competition, state competition, and national competition in Kansas City, Missouri. |
