By Chief Jonathan Riffe
November 14, 2012

For the 3rd time in 2 days and twice in the same day at 1529 hours, Fire Chief 6 (Riffe), Assistant Fire Chief 6 (Montgomery), 3rd due Engine 62 (Sgt Montgomery; 7 total members) & 1st due Tanker 6 (Smith) were alerted for the house fire at 3730 Williams Wharf Road. While enroute to the scene, Communications advised that the driveway was extremely long. First arriving Engine 71 laid out at the fork in the driveway approximately 1/2 way down and reported heavy smoke showing.

This alerted the Working Fire Dispatch (WFD) bringing a 3rd crew from quarters aboard Engine 61 (Safety Officer McKenny), 1st due Engine on the WFD. Seconds later, the OIC advised the basement was fully-involved with heavy fire also on the 1st floor. Second arriving Engine 22 laid out from the roadway to complete the forward lay and acting as a relay pumper. However, due to the length of the driveway, they came up short unable to complete the lay. Third due Engine 62 arrived on location and were able to complete the forward lay and acting as a 2nd relay pumper. Solomons Tanker 3 supplied the fireground from the roadway.

Meanwhile, multiple lines were advanced off of Engine 71 making work of the fire within 15 minutes. Due to the amount of fire and extensive overhaul, units remained on the scene for several hours. Tanker 6 & 7 shuttled water back and forth to the fireground while Engine 72 supplied a draft from the Patuxent River at the end of Broomes Island Road.

A total of 16 Huntingtown Volunteers operated on the scene.

Water Supply: Fire Chief 6
